The Buckinghamshire Archery Association Archer of the Year award is presented to a member in respect of their service to the county, or their club, or in recognition of their own personal progress or achievement.

The winner will be chosen by vote at the AGM this Saturday 7th November, 10am at Buckland Village Hall, HP22 5JB.

Congratulations to the following archers, who have been nominated for the award this year-

Nick Hunter – Silver Arrow Archers

Nick Hunter has excelled in his shooting this year. He is competing at a very high level which has seen him medal at many competitions, finish in the top 10% in the National Ranking, represent Bucks County and represent his country Northern Ireland.

Phyll Griffiths, Silver Arrow Archers

John Murphy – South Bucks Archers

I would like to nominate John for consideration as Buckinghamshire’s Archer of the Year 2026 not only for his obvious achievements in competition throughout the year - which have been many - but from a personal point of view - John has been very welcoming and happy to offer advice to not only myself but other new members of the club.

Whilst he sets the archery standards we ordinary folks aspire to, he does it with a humble manner and always has time to engage with those less skilled than himself. As someone who came into archery only in April this year, I have found John to be a great sounding board and provider of quiet support when most needed - on those bad days when the target may as well be in another field.

Whilst he may not know it, he is seen as a mentor by a number of us in the club and effortlessly fulfils that role through his gentle encouragement and support for everyone; whatever their ability may be.

Andrew Gresham, South Bucks Archers
