New County Judge

Well done to Phyllis Griffiths who passed her Judge training recently. Phyll is now a qualified Archery GB County Judge which means that Bucks now has one County Judge and one Candidate Judge.
Are you interested in becoming a judge? Thank you to Phyll for providing some information about the process below-
The first thing is to talk to a judge so they can explain what is involved and possibly invite you to join them at a shoot as a taster, which I did.
If you are then interested, contact the regional judging liaison officer at SCAS. They will send you an application form to complete and return.
Once accepted, you will need to purchase a Candidate pack. This costs £35 and is refunded once you qualify. The Candidate pack includes all the basic equipment you will need to get started: whistle, magnifying glass, pens, stopwatch, small tape measure and guidance documents.
You then need to find a qualified Judge to mentor you and help you through your training. The SCAS liaison office can help with this if needed.
Candidate judges must judge at a minimum of 12 competitions, one of which must be a clout or field shoot, before you can apply for your practical assessment to qualify as a County Judge.
You must also complete a written timed test, attend a regional SCAS Judges AGM, AGB seminar/AGM and a training seminar.
There is no official time limit on how long it takes you to qualify, like me you may wish to continue to compete at some competitions or shoots can be cancelled (2 clouts last year for me) but it would be better if you could judge regularly to keep you in the loop and up to date with the procedures and rules.
Your mentor, other judges and regional liaison officer are always there to assist and advise you.
There is more information on Judging on the AGB website-
