  • Bucks AA Archer of the Year 2023 Nominees

The Archer of the Year award is presented to an archer in respect of their service to the county, or their club, or in recognition of their own personal progress or achievement. Congratulations to the following archers, who have been nominated for the above award: Milly Aziz, Silver Arrow Archers I nominate Dr Milly Aziz of Silver Arrow Archers as she has had a great outdoor season, 4th at WA Weekend in WA50 at Peacocks in June, County Barebow Champion gaining a Rose Award and setting a new County Record for the Double WA50. Milly also serves on the committee as the Welfare Officer of Silver Arrow Archers and is one of the first to jump in to lend a hand. Garry Morgan, Silver Arrow Archers. Neill Ovenden, Whiteleaf Bowmen I’d like to nominate Neill for running a highly successful county championships for the second year running. The logistics this year were a new challenge, with TenZone providing the bosses; entries were up on last year; all the comments I heard on the day from participants were extremely positive, so I think Neill is doing a great job of re-establishing the Bucks county champs as a meaningful shoot. Julie Morling, Whiteleaf Bowmen John O’Keeffe, Whiteleaf Bowmen John is our County Records Officer, who has painstakingly transferred, all existing and new county records into a Golden Records account for BAA. From this he has created a searchable, excel spreadsheet that can be down-loaded from the website. This mammoth task, has entailed the inputting of 700+ records, from 1953 onwards, with all the associated information (archer, category, class, round, type, date, venue, score, hits, golds, tens, handicap, classification, status, qualifying, record status, date added, adjusted score) an enormous amount of data. He deserves recognition for his dedication to this task. Alan Crowe, South Bucks Archers Kalhan Jogireddy, South Bucks Archers I would like to nominate Kalhan as Bucks Archer of the Year for the reasons given below. Kalhan Jogireddy has shot to a very high standard this year. Entering a number of competitions, he achieved barebow Gold at the World Archery Weekend hosted by Peacock Archers. He shot at three of the National Tour Stages, earning a place in the UK top 15. Having achieved Bowman 1st class earlier in the summer, he is now close to completing his Master Bowman and he has successfully shot all the 252 award scheme distances up to 100 yards. In the County Summer Postal he achieved Gold in the Barebow BB1 category and at the County Outdoor Championships, he helped set up on the day before going on to shoot a York and earning 2nd place. He represented the County in the barebow team at the National County Team Championships at Lilleshall. Kalhan is always very supportive of other archers and is very happy to share his knowledge and have a sociable chat. Chris Jordan, South Bucks Archers The winner will be chosen by vote at the Bucks AA AGM Saturday 4th November 10:00 am at Buckland Village Hall.

  • County records – updated

Many thanks to John O’Keeffe, County Records Officer, who has painstakingly transferred, all existing and new county records into a Golden Records account for BAA. From this he has created an excel spreadsheet that can be down-loaded from the website. This has entailed the inputting of 700+ records, from 1953 onward, with all the associated information (archer, category, class, round, type, date, venue, score, hits, golds, tens, handicap, classification, status, qualifying, record status, date added, adjusted score) an enormous amount of data. 50+ records: For the 50+ category, BAA will follow AGB and issue certificates at the end of the year. 50+ archers do not need to enter competitions in a 50+ category to claim 50+ county records.

  • Bucks AA Field Shoot 15th October 2023

A total of 17 archers enjoyed a chilly, but sunny autumn day's shooting in the woods at White Mark Bowmen's ground near Beaconsfield. Our numbers were down on those of previous years, which was a shame since the woods were in fine condition for this event [and most archers returned with all their arrows :)]. The results can be found under the "Tournament results" tab on the home page. It would be good to see more archers coming along to this friendly and relaxed event. My thanks go to Peter Swann, Michael Winn and Sue Crowe for their assistance with the organisation and running of the event. Also to Sue Mitchell and Paul Davis for sending me the photos seen here.
